You may have financial commitments at the moment but would like to remember the LRC in your will. A charitable bequest for the LRC may be included in your will when it is written or revised. A bequest to the LRC is a wonderful way to leave a lasting legacy in your honour. It is a profound way to proclaim your support for the vision of the LRC to bringing Justice for All.
Depending on your family's needs, there are several options for naming the Legal Resources Centre in your will, below are examples of bequest techniques. You are advised to consult an attorney to adapt the language to suit your specific circumstance.
Making a Will is the only way to ensure that on your death, your property and affairs are dealt with in accordance with your wishes. Without a Will, the law decides what happens to your estate and how it is distributed. Many married people assume that when they die everything they own will automatically pass to their spouse, but this is not always the case. Equally for unmarried couples there is no automatic right of inheritance for the other partner.
A specific bequest is a gift of a particular amount or a particular piece of property.
A residuary bequest is a gift of all or part of the property remaining in your estate after debts, expenses, and specific bequests have been paid.
When you use a percentage instead of a specific amount, your gift will stay relatively the same in proportion to your entire estate, regardless of unexpected increases or decreases in its value.
A contingent bequest is a gift that takes effect only if the primary beneficiary or beneficiaries of the bequest predecease you.
Name the Legal Resources Centre as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, insurance policy, or financial account.
Another way to leave a legacy gift to the LRC is to include it as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, insurance policy, or financial account. In return for your gift, you may receive an immediate income tax deduction, reduction in capital gains, or other potential benefit. Consult your financial adviser in this regard.
