The Traditional Courts Bill 15 of 2008 is currently before the justice portfolio committee of the national assembly, the NA. On 1 September 2009 the justice portfolio committee of the NA decided to consult with the National Council of Provinces, the NCOP, about the bill and its passage through parliament. The NCOP and the responsible NCOP select committee may agree that the NA portfolio committee and the NCOP select committee hold joint public hearings on the provinces. The NA portfolio committee can then accept or reject or amend the bill.
