2009 10 12 'The LRC on youth radio stations', LRC

From 28 October 2009 to 16 June 2010 (Youth Day), the LRC will be hosting a dynamic edutainment campaign on youth radio stations across South Africa. The purpose of the campaign will be to create greater awareness and understanding of and promote discussions and debates on issues relating to the rights of children and youth and HIV/AIDS. The shows will be aired on YFM in Gauteng, Capricorn FM in Limpopo and Gagasi FM in KwaZulu-Natal.

They will feature Adelline Malema, the LRC's Communications Officer, interacting with the station presenter in a loosely scripted Q&A format hard hitting debate that will then be thrown open to listeners. The shows will include dramatisations based on true stories, studio based interviews and live call-ins.

The first show, which will focus on the impact that the minimum sentencing provisions in the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1997 had on 16 and 17 year olds before they were recently declared invalid by the Constitutional Court, will be on YFM's ‘What's Wiring Your Mind' on 28 October at 14:30pm.

Five more shows will then take place on YFM - tune in every Wednesday at 14:30pm - until 2 December 2009 (a day after World Aids Day), before the campaign moves to Capricorn FM and Gagasi FM in 2010.

For more information about the shows please visit www.lrc.org.za in the coming weeks.
